The STEP
workshop, developed by ASID (the American Society of Interior
Designers), gives the pre-professional an opportunity to test
their understanding of facts, analytical skills, and design
abilities through exercises that require the application of
knowledge. STEP is held twice yearly usually from 6-8 weeks
before the national test is given. STEP is held over 2 days with
the first two parts consisting of multiple choice questions and
the second day consisting of the practicum, schematics and
design development.
When
deficiencies in knowledge or skills are discovered in the
program exercises, the stage is set for learning. The Designer’s
awareness of errors will allow them to identify weaknesses as
well as strengths. The STEP program is founded on the idea that
it is possible for you to be your own teacher, and the program
provides guidance in identifying where you might usefully
concentrate your study efforts.
The STEP
program is offered in Boston, Massachusetts and most recently,
in New Hampshire at Hesser College. The program is offered
twice yearly; in the spring and fall and information can be
found on the ASID website under the “I am a designer” tab under
“NCIDQ prep”. Workshop dates, locations, and registration forms
are listed.
